Traveling with Kids

Tips, Trips, and fun little clips exploring the world with kids

Holiday Travel

Can you believe that the holiday season is already upon us? It comes (and goes) so quickly nowadays and people start preparing for the holidays earlier and earlier every year. Not only are people getting ahead of the game with their shopping but they’re also becoming more proactive and premeditated with their travel preparations.

Oddly enough, I love holiday travel. There’s something to be said about the hustle and bustle of getting to your family just in time to spend the holiday with them. The evening before a trip is a restless and anxious one because I’m quietly bubbling with excitement. It’s good to know that I’ve retained that kid in me.  Now granted, I’m not a fan of traffic or the disgruntled traveler armed with vulgar hand gestures, but I do love the excitement of getting ready for a holiday trip and traveling to my destination.

As a parent, holiday travel takes on all a whole new meaning and for some, it can be daunting. But it doesn’t have to be. It takes a little bit of practice, a whole lot of preparation, and a positive countenance. Yes, you have to make your multiple To Do or To Pack lists. Yes, you have to plan strategically what time you decide to leave if you have an infant or young toddler. Yes, you have to think about rest stops or maneuvering small airplane restrooms. And yes, the stress of these things and others is heightened during the holiday travel season – your holiday travel takes on a whole new dimension.  But the reward of getting to your destination, sipping on cider or egg nog, carving turkey, exchanging gifts, playing games, welcoming new babies, and laughing with family and friends trumps all those worries and concerns. And it makes your children happy.

So whenever you think about the inconveniences and headache of holiday travel, think about how fun and exciting it was for you when you were a kid. And think about how much you looked forward to it. Then remember that your kids are who you once were and are feeling those same things too.
